DESCRIPTION
Use 12 inch Dutch oven.
Filling:
- 8 to 10 granny smith apples peeled, cored and cubed
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 – 12 ounce jar caramel sauce
Topping:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup instant oatmeal
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup melted butter
DIRECTIONS
Melt the butter in the Dutch oven with 10 coals on the bottom. Add the apples lemon juice and stir to coat the apples. In a bowl combine the sugar, 1/3 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt, stir to mix and pour over the apples. Stir until the apples are well coated and spread the batter out evenly. Pour the caramel sauce on top and spread it out evenly. In a bowl combine the brown sugar, 2 cups flour, oatmeal and walnuts, stir to mix. Melt the butter in a pan. Add the butter to the bowl and mix using a fork. Crumble the toppings of the apples, cover and bake at 305 degrees F for 50-60 minutes.
