- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup Crisco
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 1/2 cup cold milk
DIRECTIONS
In large bowl combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Sift together until very smooth to roll out the dough. Mix in Crisco and butter. Add in water and milk.
Toss together with a fork and then with fingers until into a big ball. Divide into 4 balls. Flatten them a little and chill 1 hour before rolling.
Flour the cabinet good or on some plastic sheet for pies. Put some flour on top of the dough while rolling. Put pie dough in pie plates. Do not bake before freezing. Press sides and prick the bottom before baking.
Chill a single pie crust before baking. Bake at 475 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes.
Note: I don’t use lard as I used to but do use butter. You can use all Crisco or more butter. To make 2 cups I use milk with water. Sometimes I use more milk to make 1 cup. I’ve tried many kinds by experience and trials.
